Glimpses - Still Motion Videos App Reviews
This is essentially a Mac version of an old website called Pummelvision, which I loved. Since it no longer exists, I was really excited for Briefly. What I dont like: - It stretches(!) the pictures, so people have deformed heads, and things just dont look nice. This is a deal-breaker for me. - Instead of fitting portrait-oriented pictures to the frame, it crops the tops and bottoms. I lost a lot of heads in my pictures. - Theres no option to set the framerate. It seemed just a little fast to me. What I do like: - It does what says. - The option to choose your own music is nice Verdict: I want to like this so bad. Fix the first two dislikes, and itll be a 5-star review. Till then, I wont be using it.
I really wanted to likke this but there is no way to change frame rate. It is way too fast. I cant seem to find a way to start a new video, it just adds the new frames to the last. No way to clear last. Clips large pics and stretches small to fit, which means a lot of distorted or wierdly cropped images Useless to me as it is.
I just love this still motion tool. At first I didnt understand why I should be interested in having it, but after downloading the demo of product and seeing what it can actually do when I drag and drop a bunch of my photos into it, Im thrilled with the purchase. There are so many way to create cool and striking videos by simply dragging your photos into the interface. Im really excited about making a whole bunch of different videos to use for all sorts of projects, and already planning photo shoots specifically designed to create content that I can use with this technqiue. The complaints mentioned by users of the previous versions have been addressed with this new version, and the only thing about the program that I hope will be improved is just basic stuff that gives the user even more control. It would be nifty if we could target a region of a picture which will be used if the picture gets cropped, because when it generates widescreen videos that use vertical photographs it has to crop out some of the photo. Being able to choose whether it preserves the top, the bottom or the middle on a picture by picture basis would be a handy improvement. This is fun, if nothing else. Its a handy tool and a fun program to play and experiment for anyone interested in photography, video-making, picture collecting and sharing cool content on social media. Youve seen YouTube videos that utilize this technique effectively. Now you can do it too--quickly and easily. I gave it a 4 star rating, but Id have given it 4.5 stars if I could. With further enhancements itll be 5 stars all the way. LF
Couldnt be easier to use. Without reading anything more than the screens on this page, I started the app and gave it the "turbo" test: I have over 16K photos, various sizes, and just popped them all in at once. The software looked in subfolders and got everything I tossed at it. The inital load took a few minutes (on a Macbook Pro w/ solid-state drive). I didnt see a simple way to say "never mind" and start over, though. I quit the app and restarted it, and it restarted where it left off. The only way to clear out a movie and start over is to "edit/select all" and delete. You can do this mid-stream and it will immediately stop what it was doing, so an eventual "yay" on that, though something a little more elegant would be nice. I didnt bother with a soundtrack for this test-run. Took about 10 minutes to create a mp4 file (no option to change format) that runs just over 27 minutes. Each image lasts merely 1/10 of a second; this cannot be adjusted. You can adjust the resolution of the finished product. However, it does not allow selectivity on what to do with pictures that are too large or small. I found that some images are cropped while others have bands (vertical or horizontal). If you dont select "auto" for this feature, smaller images are not zoomed. That said, if all of your images are approximately the same size, like photos from a vacation, then you have no problem at all. But be aware that if some are landscape and some are portrait, you may get unexpected results. Nice feature: it allows import from flickr or instagram. So, yeah, Id like to have a little more creativity (adjust length of display of images, settings for crop/stretch images), but its still WAY less cumbersome than using iMovie (which is what Ive done in the past). Although iMovie does allow for fast screen times of still images, it doesnt allow for this fast. It also would take forever to process as many images as I tossed at this app. So a "thumbs-up" from me.
Not working
it doesnt work. Do not buy!!!
Thanks for the update
Now with upto 4 secs per picture its pefect.
Great app, with matching support
Downloaded 1.0 and there was an issue with the sorting of EXIF data. I contacted support and they have an update out the door in like a week. :D
I was looking for something to create on my Mac like flip o gram and was happy that I came across this, but a little disappointed. I suggest a feature to choose the portion of the music to clip and add, an option to make it a little longer as well as slower or faster, and to make a title as well as ending. Then it would be perfect. Otherwise, it’s just ok
No music and you only can pick a 9 second "movie." I loaded in lots of photos for a presentation, no sound even though it says it is playing the music and the photos are compressed into 9 seconds max- so itf you have 9 photos- youll get 1 second per photo- with no sound, any more photos than that- you cant even see what the photos are. MONEY BACK!!!!!!
I prepared a montage of 167 photo’s, 16 seconds long, to music which I chose from my itunes library. It was easy and completely successful. If anything, I would like the option to have the time length expanded. Photo’s are FAST!
I was able, quickly, to create several movies as gifts for people. It’s simple to use: drag images from Finder or import from Flickr or Instagram; pick a sound track from Finder; pick the duration between images and click create. You can also sort the images so they appear in a different order. I found a simple bug and the developer contacted me within the same day. I have no complaints and my friends are happy with the movies I made for them.
GREAT AND PROVEN REALIBLY
I'VE USED THE APP FOR YEARS, AND I ALWAYS FIND NEW AND CREATIVE WAYS TO MAKE TIME BASED ART
Good support
I had some questions about using this software. The developers got right back to me with meaningful answers.
It’s fun and the developer is responsive

Kinda bare-bones, but effective.
